Academic Advisory Board of the Global Research Initiative on Open Science (GRIOS): Call for Applications

23/10/2025

The Global Research Initiative on Open Science (GRIOS) invites applications for 3–10 positions on its Academic Advisory Board (AAB). The Board will play a central role in ensuring the scientific rigour, relevance, and quality of GRIOS’s work.

About GRIOS

The Global Research Initiative on Open Science (GRIOS) is a new initiative aiming to promote more effective Open Science policies by synthesising our current knowledge about Open Science.

GRIOS will commission systematic and scoping reviews of academic literature on Open Science. These reviews will address a range of research questions, with the goal of summarising existing evidence on Open Science. The results will help identify what works, what does not, and what key barriers exist—offering insights to support evidence-based Open Science policymaking. It will also help to track trends and impacts in Open Science. We are currently setting up our governance structure, comprised of a Steering Committee, which represents the GRIOS funders, and an Academic Advisory Board, responsible for ensuring the scientific quality of our work. GRIOS is hosted and supported by the European Science Foundation (ESF). Further details can be found at www.grios.org.

Role of the Academic Advisory Board

The Academic Advisory Board is an integral part of the GRIOS governance. Its main role is to advise the GRIOS Steering Committee on academic matters and ensure the academic rigour and quality of the work produced by the initiative. We are currently seeking 3-10 individual members to constitute the first Academic Advisory Board of the Initiative.

Key responsibilities of the Academic Advisory Board

The Academic Advisory Board will provide academic expertise and guidance to the Steering Committee, such as proposing topics to be considered for review, evaluating the applications for systematic/scoping reviews received, validating the research methodologies used, assessing the use of Open Science practices and adherence to ethical standards. It will monitor and evaluate the work to be commissioned by GRIOS and report to the Steering Committee on the review work being carried out.

Benefits of serving as a member of the Academic Advisory Board

Being a member of the Academic Advisory Board is an opportunity to contribute to a new and ambitious initiative advancing Open Science. You will be part of a growing community of meta-research specialists, influencing the research agenda on Open Science and helping to ensure that Open Science policies are evidence-based. Members will be duly acknowledged via the GRIOS communication channels.
